Marcus Sibley
NAACP N.J. State Conference Environmental & Climate Justice Committee Chair
Marcus Sibley, MSW is an environmental and social justice activist with a deep and profound commitment to equity, progress, and accessibility to clean water, clean air, and clean and safe community spaces. The Newark, New Jersey native began as a family therapist, following receiving undergraduate and graduate degrees in social work at Rutgers University. For the next fifteen years he toured the country empowering audiences via keynote addresses and music as a speaker, and as a poet/hip-hop recording artist with the stage name Walkin Contradiction. Today his commitment to community and change are actualized in his roles as the New Jersey Progressive Equitable Energy Coalition (NJPEEC) chair, the NAACP NJSC environmental and climate justice chair, and the National Wildlife Federation N.Y./N.J./Conn. director of conservation partnerships where he also works closely with the NWF's international team fighting the inequities experienced abroad due to the commodities procured and consumed domestically. The immediate past president of the Southern Burlington County NAACP branch is also a consummate proponent of education and empowerment, and has been featured widely for his advocacy in print and online newspapers and magazines, radio programs, television shows and news specials, and has most recently been recognized with the 2022 NJLCV Changemaker Award, the 2022 South Jersey Biz Magazine Executive of the Year Award, and the 2023 Kappa Upsilon Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Social Action Award. Marcus takes great pride in his various roles and obligations, but unequivocally acknowledges his role as his daughter’s father as his most important responsibility.
