Dr. James M. Cervino received a bachelor's degree from New York University that focused on earth science and physical anthropology, a master's from Boston University in marine biology and a Ph.D. in marine science & pathology from University of South Carolina. His research interest involves investigating the impacts of global warming, emerging marine diseases, chemical pollution and its links to compromised immunity leading to cancer in marine organisms. James's current research interests is to understand how microplastics, chemicals and pathogens move through food chains; the biological and ecological effects of chemical pollution; and thermal stress and disease in marine ecosystems. He started an environmental consulting firm in New York City and holds a visiting scientist research position at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Cape Cod, Mass. From 2004-2009 he was an adjunct guest lecturer at Columbia University's Earth Institute.
